Eastern Suburbs, NSW Residence

Join us as we explore this family home designed by the team at Sydney landscape architects, Wyer & Co. The contemporary designed home is balanced with an abundance of lush greenery that connects its' architecture with the surrounding landscape.

The entrance combines a multi-level garden with layered texturing of organic and structured plants, creating botanical drama. The lighting system is both functional and complementary to the planting scheme featuring a cluster of Hanging Speckle lights suspended from tall mature trees with the soft dappled light illuminating the path below.

The rear garden also embraces it's connection to home with direct access to the kitchen, dining and lounge area. The garden is alive with textural plant types, well-lit zoned living areas and illumination of feature trees. An Inground 8 throws light upwards on the striking Phoenic Roebelenii creating an impressive feature. Step Light Round 100s in black are also installed along the corten steel edging, creating focus and depth.

"We believe that garden lighting should be soft and subtle. The feature image is a great example of how to identify the main feature of the garden; in this case a beautiful Phoenix roebelenii, whilst incorporating background light to create depth."  Anthony Wyer, Founder & Creative Director

The textured surface of an existing sandstone outcrop is highlighted with Inground 8 lighting and a vibrant purple flower, Convolvulus Mauritanicus, spills onto the dark timber fencing behind, with dramatic results. The lighting continues around the pool decking using our Inground 1 lights.

The outdoor dining and entertaining area are also well-lit for entertaining. The polished concrete worktop is integrated with a BBQ and pizza oven and the rear planter box hosts a combination of Strelitzia nicolai and Hydrangeas to create screening and privacy. Here our Adjustable Single Wall Light directs light onto the BBQ work area and a Pole Light Twin 10 light the plants behind.

Thank you to the team at Wyer & Co. and their wonderful clients for allowing us to step inside this welcoming home and garden. This project highlights what can be achieved with outdoor lighting and design elements that provide a connection between exterior and interior. It is always a pleasure to collaborate on projects with the creative team at Wyer & Co.
