Light Emitting Diode (LED) is a semiconductor device that produces light when an electric current passes through it. This technology is far more efficient and offers a much longer lifespan than traditional light sources.
We use Cree LEDs for their proven reliability, consistent colour, and high efficiency. After more than a decade using Cree’s technology, Gardens at Night was recognised in Cree’s global partnership program. Benefits of using Cree LEDs include:
- Proven and trusted LED technology
- Consistent performance oacross all fixtures
- Reliable colour temperature
- Lower power consumption, reduced running costs
- Industry leading thermal contolr to protect LED lifespan

No. We specialise in high-performance, energy-efficient wired lighting rather than solar, enabling us to deliver consistent brightness and long-lasting, reliable performance year round – across all environments.
All our fixtures are made from durable, corrosion-resistant materials such as brass, copper and stainless steel, and built for long-lasting performance, even in harsh coastal environments.
We recommend 24VDC. It is both safe in the garden and it is the industry standard for LED lighting systems.
Our standard colour temperature is 2700K – a Kelvin rating that produces a warm, welcoming light ideal for residential landscapes and ensures a consistent lighting scheme across your project.
If needed, we can also provide 3000K or 4000K for larger residential or commercial applications, and we recommend speaking with a Commercial Distributor for support on commercial projects.

Using the correct power supply, our fittings can be integrated with most home switching systems. For guidance, speak with a Showroom Consultant or Distributor about the options available.
Yes. We we can provide custom solutions for large residential, commercial, and hospitality projects. To assist with specification, simply refer to the ‘customisation matrix’ on the product page to view available options.
Our Commercial Distributors, across Australia and New Zealand, specialise in commercial lighting specification and provide you with local support. Visit our Contact Us page to find your local Distributor.
There are several reasons a light might not be working, such as a damaged cable or connection issue. We offer a Technical Callout service to diagnose and fix any problems. You can learn more and book a service on our Showroom Services page.
The number of fixtures you can operate from a single Power Supply Unit (PSU) depends on two key factors:
- Total fixture wattage – By calculating the wattage of all lights connected to the PSU, your total must not exceed the PSU’s rated output.
- Maximum cable length – Extra-low voltage systems experience voltage drop over distance. Each PSU supports a maximum cable length in metres before performance is affected.
We have a range of PSUs to suit different size projects. View our range here. Please also refer to our helpful Voltage Drop Chart Guide, available on our Technical Resources Page.
Contact your nearest Showroom or Distributor for advice.
Yes, please refer to the light fitting’s product page to see available customisation and whether it is dimmable.
Beam angle refers to how widely light is distributed from a fixture. The reflector or lens inside the fitting shapes this angle, controlling both the spread and the intensity of the beam. Our standard fixtures – the models we keep readily stocked – use a 40D reflector, which we’ve found to deliver the most effective beam angle for landscape lighting based on more than 25 years industry experience.
For customised beam angles or reflector options, view the individual product page Custom Configuration matrix or speak with your local Distributor.
IP Rating, or International Protection ratings, are important for defining the level of protection an electrical or mechanical enclosure offers, when exposed to water or dust. The IP rating helps to understand if a light is suitable for various environmental conditions. For example, our Underwater Lights range is IP68, meaning they are dust-tight and suitable for continuous submersion. Our Accent Lights are rated IP66, providing standard outdoor waterproofing and resistance to dust.
Refer to our IP Rating Guide.
Our products come in in four finishes: Matt Black, Bronze, Copper and Nickel (or Stainless Steel).
Copper and Bronze are living finishes that naturally age, developing warm earthy tones and a soft green patina over time. The rate of patina formation depends on the environment – air, moisture and coastal conditions all encourages this natural oxidation. You can see examples of this ageing in our Inspiration Gallery or refer to additional information below.

Our Inground Lights use a PVD (Physical Vapour Deposition) coating, which provides superior resistance to scratches, corrosion and fading – ideal for fixtures installed at ground level. This enhanced durability is achieved through a specialist three-stage process:
1. The Brass is sandblasted to create texture and a matt effect
2. Followed by the application of a Nickel layer
3. Finally, a PVD coating is applied

Commonly mistaken for corrosion or rust, the patina that forms on copper and bronze finishes is a natural result of the ageing and weathering process in the environment.
These materials develop a naturally forming ‘living finish’. Over time, they age and oxidise, changing appearance in response to weather, the surrounding environment, and other external influences.
This is most noticeable in coastal areas where salt air and spray accelerate the process. Oxidation can shift the tones to a rich reddish-brown and often produce a green patina on the surface of the fittings. The patina not only provides a protective layer but also enhances the fittings’ inherent character that blends seamlessly into the landscape.

Copper and bronze have been used for thousands of years for their natural appeal and corrosion resistance, featuring prominently in architecture and sculptures around the world.

All our fittings are made from corrosion-resistant brass, making them durable for coastal environments. However, finishes will naturally react to salt air, developing oxidation and a patina over time. For more detail, see our notes in the previous question above, on how coastal conditions influence patina and ageing.
All fixtures can be cleaned periodically, with frequency depending on weather exposure and proximity to coastal conditions. We recommend using a soft cloth with a mild, low-pH soapy water solution. Harsh chemical cleaners or abrasive cleaners and cloths should be avoided.

Yes, you can install the lights yourself, however all work must carried out in accordance with the compliant standard outlined in our installation instructions. For guidance on correct joining techniques, refer to our Technical Guide Video. It demonstrates:
- Standard Joining Method – for electrical connections and enivonmental sealing in well-drained soils and garden beds
- Oversheath Joining Method – for added protection in areas with poor drainage.
Please note: All Gardens at Night fittings must be wired in parallel and connected in accordance with installation instructions provided (including soldering of cable joins and sealing with Adhesive Lined End Caps or Tubes). Failure to follow these requirements will void the warranty.
Our installation instructions are easy to access – you’ll find them on each product page, on our Technical Resources page, and via the QR code printed on the product box.
